Making Disciples of Jesus
Disciples
As we begin to plan for next year, the College Ministry leaders are going back to the fundamentals to see why we do what we do.
When Mars Hill thinks through what its College Ministry is all about, we think about Jesus and making Disciples of Him. God brings man in on His story in Genesis, creating men and women to fill the earth with His image and, therefore, the glory of God. Tragically, the image of God in man is distorted because of our sin.
The only man that is the perfect image bearer of God is Jesus. Through His life, death and resurrection, He has made it possible to accurately image God. Therefore, He commands us to make Disciples throughout the world, to fill the earth with the glory of God, fulfilling the original intent for mankind, by bearing his image (Gen. 1:26-28, Hab. 2:14, Matt. 28:19).
When we say “make disciples,” we have a specific description of a Disciple in mind. We think of a Disciple of Jesus in terms of our Identity in Christ expressed in three ways: Worship, Community and Mission. Therefore everything we do as a College Ministry should be in sync with creating these kind of Disciples of Jesus. This idea may be hard to break into nice little descriptions since they are all connected, but I’ll try over the next couple posts.
